We present the 2026 Iberdrola Convive Awards to recognise 10 initiatives transforming rural areas<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

These awards, now in their third edition, recognise and raise the profile of initiatives launched in Spain to promote renewable energy in harmony with socioeconomic development and biodiversity conservation<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sig\u00fcenza (Guadalajara) hosted the third edition of the Convive Awards<\/a>, bringing together more than 150 guests, including award winners and public officials, to celebrate innovation and development through the implementation of renewable energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2026, we have focused on recognising the best initiatives that combine environmental, agricultural and social protection with clean energy. Ten initiatives received well-deserved recognition across six categories, demonstrating how the electrification of the economy creates new opportunities for growth and innovation. The selection process was supported by an advisory committee made up of five experts who assessed the validity of the projects submitted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The winners of the third edition of the Convive Awards<\/a> were:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Innovation with Impact<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Birka Composites<\/strong> for demonstrating that electrification can go hand in hand with biodiversity protection, combining technology and innovation in rural areas to also revitalise their economies and create employment opportunities for younger people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bayer Spain<\/strong> for decarbonising the manufacturing process for the active ingredient in Aspirin at its plant in Asturias. This project stands out as a pioneering initiative in the electrification of industrial processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Biodiversity Preservation<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The Basque Government <\/strong>for its project to integrate networks into the Urdaibai reserve, modernising network infrastructure and promoting electrification and digitalisation as drivers of territorial growth. The project also included an unprecedented landscape restoration and biodiversity protection initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Transformative Entrepreneurship<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Proyecto Arraigo<\/strong> for creating partnerships between the development of renewable energy in rural areas and the creation of urban development and services that encourage new families to settle in these areas, helping to address rural depopulation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cl\u00faster Industrial de Lucena (C\u00f3rdoba) <\/strong>for leading the manufacture of heat pumps and climate control systems in Spain, becoming an example of the industrial and economic impact of electrification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Purpose-driven Communication<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Diario Las Provincias<\/em><\/strong>(Valencia region) and El Comercio<\/em><\/strong> (Asturias) for their contribution to communicating current energy issues in a friendly, clear and accessible way, with a particular focus on rural areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Young Talent<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

UNICEF<\/strong> for its work promoting training and skills development in activities aligned with electrification among vulnerable young people, thereby contributing to the strengthening and development of different communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Community Leadership<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Silvia G\u00f3mez<\/strong>, president of La Costana Neighbourhood Council (Cantabria), for demonstrating the transformative potential of renewable energy, in this case wind power, when it comes to rural communities, with a positive impact in the form of lower energy bills for residents and new opportunities for the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The municipal councils of Villora and Enfu\u00eddanos<\/strong> (Cuenca) for promoting the Villora-Las Chorreras del Cabriel trail as a way of combining sustainable local development with the conservation of the region’s natural heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the awards ceremony, Iberdrola Espa\u00f1a CEO Mario Ruiz-Tagle<\/strong> highlighted that \u201cwith the Convive Awards<\/a>, we want to recognise that economic progress, social cohesion and nature protection can and must move forward together. Electrification will be faster, fairer and more robust if it is built through collaboration, listening to communities and leaving a tangible value in every area\u201d. He also stressed that investing in electrification will strengthen Europe’s energy security and competitiveness, while improving people’s lives through the economic development that this process brings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also attending the ceremony were Emiliano Garc\u00eda-Page<\/strong>, president of the Regional Government of Castilla-La Mancha; Mar\u00eda Jes\u00fas Merino Poyo<\/strong>, mayor of Sig\u00fcenza; and other public officials and institutional representatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
