Volunteer week and International Volunteer Awards 2026

Iberdrola recognises the charitable work of its employees and mobilises more than 9,500 people

From 26 September to 4 October, Iberdrola held its 15th International Volunteer Week, organising 135 social and environmental activities in collaboration with organisations and institutions across the countries where it operates

The Iberdrola Group’s International Corporate Volunteering Programme was created to channel our employees’ charitable spirit and encourage them to take part in social projects aimed at integrating vulnerable groups, improving the environment and promoting sustainable development. The year 2026 has been a particularly significant one, marking the 20th anniversary of Iberdrola’s International Corporate Volunteering Programme. The anniversary also saw a record number of participants, with 9,500 volunteers taking part in projects organised through the initiative.

Through these shared experiences with colleagues, family and friends, Iberdrola employees are helping to make a positive difference to the planet and to other people’s lives. Every challenge is an opportunity to connect, enjoy time together and create a positive impact.

Since the programme was launched in 2006, more than 23,000 volunteers from 24 countries have taken part in over 10,000 initiatives. Together, they have contributed more than 90,000 hours of voluntary work in collaboration with over 3,000 social organisations. The collective effort is estimated to have directly benefited more than 14 million people worldwide.

Winners of the 2026 International Volunteering Awards

Health and well-being award

Eliana Alves dos Santos has been recognised for her voluntary work coordinating the Volunteering Working Group at Neoenergia Coelba. One of the group’s initiatives involved collecting 153 headscarves for women and girls undergoing cancer treatment. The headscarves were donated to Aristides Maltez Hospital in Salvador, Bahia.

Education award

María Isabel Robelledo Jiménez has received the award in recognition of her volunteering and mentoring work with refugee and migrant girls aged between 13 and 20 in Berlin. Through her commitment, she directly supports these young women’s social inclusion, helping them build new opportunities away from their countries of origin.

Eilidh Campbell, meanwhile, has been volunteering with the Breaking Barriers programme at ScottishPower’s Glasgow headquarters for several years. Each year, she dedicates between six and eight weeks to working with adults with varying degrees of intellectual disability and learning difficulties, helping them develop their social and professional skills.

Awareness-raising and commitment award

Andrew Haughey is a strong advocate for volunteering and a role model within the organisation thanks to his commitment and involvement. Over the past year, he has led 10 volunteering activities and taken part in 21 initiatives, demonstrating consistent dedication and an outstanding ability to inspire and encourage others to get involved. His efforts have earned him recognition in this category.

Environment award

Alberto Blanco Alameda has received this recognition for his exemplary record of commitment to environmental volunteering. Among his recent projects, he has helped plant more than 3,000 native trees in central Spain.
