We are opening Spain’s largest energy storage battery

Iberdrola is driving forward energy storage with the inauguration of Spain’s largest battery at the Campo Arañuelo solar complex (Cáceres)

This energy storage battery, with a capacity of 58 MW and 120 MWh, reinforces the Group’s strategic commitment to storage as a key driver for advancing electrification and the efficient integration of renewable energy

The project comprises two LFP lithium-ion battery modules, each with a capacity of around 60 MWh, connected to the Campo Arañuelo I and II solar plants. Thanks to this technology, part of the renewable energy generated can be stored and used at times of peak demand, helping to improve the stability of the electricity system and accelerate the integration of new demand linked to electrification.

With this infrastructure, Iberdrola consolidates its leading position in battery storage in Spain, where it already operates around 200 MW. The company has been promoting this technology for years as an essential complement to renewable growth, with the aim of creating a more resilient, flexible energy system that is prepared to meet future electricity consumption needs.

The inauguration of Spain’s largest battery storage facility forms part of the extensive programme of activities Iberdrola is organising to mark its 125th anniversary, with the aim of showcasing the energy company’s legacy and history and contributing to the progress of the various regions.
