Celebrating Iberdrola’s history with music and with you
Iberdrola celebrates its 125th anniversary in Bilbao with music and Spain’s largest drone show
Bilbao hosted the main celebration of Iberdrola’s 125th anniversary on Friday 12 June, bringing together live music, innovation, technology and Spain’s largest-ever aerial drone show.
The celebration attracted nearly 40,000 people to the heart of Bilbao with a programme designed to share Iberdrola’s 125-year history with the public through an open, festive and participatory event. Doña Casilda Park hosted the musical performances throughout the day, while Torre Iberdrola served as the visual focal point of the aerial show.
An open and diverse musical line-up
The event began with Süne, who took to the stage at around 4:30pm; Rigoberta Bandini followed at 5:35pm; Antonio Orozco performed at around 7:10pm; and the event concluded at approximately 8:45pm with Juanes, who brought the celebration to a close.
Attendance exceeded expectations, creating memorable scenes of a city fully embracing an event that combined live music and celebration throughout the afternoon.
To provide the best possible experience for attendees, seven large screens positioned strategically throughout Doña Casilda Park ensured excellent visibility from almost every location.
Spain’s largest drone show
The festival concluded with a spectacular drone display, the largest ever held in Spain, featuring 1,500 drones. Powered entirely by renewable energy sources, the large-scale performance could be enjoyed from different locations across Bilbao.
For around 20 minutes, the show featured both two-dimensional and three-dimensional formations visible from multiple viewpoints, combining illuminated drones to create light figures with pyrotechnic drones during the moments of greatest visual impact. The display could also be seen, at least in part, from various points across the city, with Torre Iberdrola remaining visible throughout.
Throughout the day, visitors had access to information points, food and drink outlets, medical assistance, toilets, accessible areas for people with reduced mobility, a dedicated child assistance area and a Purple Point. In addition, a special cleaning, maintenance and gardening operation ensured that the venue remained in excellent condition following the event.
With this celebration, Iberdrola commemorated its 125-year history through an event open to the public, celebrating its journey, its connection with Bilbao and its ability to continue creating opportunities for people to come together, share experiences and imagine the future.
