We inaugurate the new illumination at the Co-Cathedral of Santa María de la Redonda in Logroño

The Iberdrola España Foundation, together with Logroño City Council and the Diocese of Calahorra and La Calzada-Logroño, has unveiled the new exterior lighting of the Co-Cathedral of Santa María de la Redonda

The Co-Cathedral of Santa María de la Redonda has undergone a comprehensive renovation of its exterior lighting system with the goal of restoring an accurate, balanced, and consistent nighttime appearance that reflects the region’s historical and cultural heritage.

Thanks to an investment of €225,000 by the Iberdrola España Foundation, 122 new state-of-the-art LED luminaires have been put in place, with a total installed capacity of 6,213 watts. The new lighting system will significantly reduce both the cathedral’s energy consumption and its electricity costs.

Through this initiative, the Iberdrola España Foundation has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting and promoting Spain’s cultural heritage, demonstrating how innovation and sustainability can help enhance the country’s great historic monuments. The project will also strengthen the cathedral’s appeal as a tourist destination while offering residents and visitors a renewed view of one of La Rioja’s most iconic religious buildings.

This initiative forms part of the extensive programme of activities planned for 2026 to mark the 125th anniversary of Iberdrola’s founding, which includes art exhibitions, music festivals, technology showcases and community events. Under the slogan 125 years ahead, the company will launch a series of initiatives designed to bring its legacy closer to society while sharing its vision for the future and reaffirming its strong commitment to the communities in which it operates..
