We have renewed the agreement for the restoration of the Yuso Monastery Library’s collection

The Iberdrola Spain Foundation and the San Millán de la Cogolla Foundation have renewed their partnership to continue the restoration of the monastery library’s collection, an initiative they have been supporting since 2012

Under this new agreement, the Iberdrola Spain Foundation will contribute €15,000 towards the restoration of six books from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries, which require urgent intervention due to their delicate state of preservation

Among the selected volumes are Divinum ac proinde inestimabile, one of the most notable works by the theologian and Dominican friar Sancho Porta, and Tractatus de sphera, a work linked to the disciplines of the Quadrivium, whose author, Johannes de Sacrobosco, was a professor at the University.

The aim of restoring these codices of great heritage value, belonging to one of the most important monastic libraries in the Hispanic world—declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997—is to promote the conservation of the cultural wealth of our language.

The signing ceremony was attended, on behalf of the San Millán de la Cogolla Foundation, by the vice-president, José Luis Pérez Pastor, and the general coordinator, Almudena Martínez; on behalf of the Iberdrola Spain Foundation, by its director, Ramón Castresana; the head of the art, culture and biodiversity departments, Antonio Collada; the Prior of the Monastery of Yuso, José Ramón Pérez; and Iberdrola’s Institutional Representative in La Rioja, Eduardo Ryan.

This agreement forms part of the wide-ranging programme designed for 2026 to mark the 125th anniversary of Iberdrola’s founding, with the aim of bringing its legacy to the wider public. It ranges from art exhibitions, music festivals and technology showcases to social events under the slogan 125 light years.
